Pinoso in Valencia was one of the top five richest towns in Spain thanks to the local production of marble, granite, almonds and local wines.

Marble is Pinoso's most important economic product and the Mount Coto area is the biggest producer of limestone marble in Spain occupying an area of about 10 km2. The marble, or "cream-ivory" as the locals call it, has been mined since the 1950's. Alicante province produces over 25% of the total marble production of Spain and of this Pinoso produces over 97% of it from Mont Coto.

Pinoso, Valencia is situated approx 45kms inland from Alicante and the popular Costa Blanca. Benidorm and Torrevieja are within very easy reach, these resorts are full of attractions for the young at heart. A short drive away is the famous wine making town of Jumilla (Murcia region).

The wine of Jumilla can be found in most UK supermarkets and the town holds it's famous wine fiesta each August, during which the madding crowd is sprayed with wine while partaking of free local “vino” and the fountain in the main square flows freely with local claret in abundance.

The neighbouring towns of Elda, Elche (Alicante region), Jumilla and Yecla (Murcia region) aside from winemaking are also famous for the manufacture of leather goods which include, amongst other things, luxury furniture and shoes.

Pinoso is also known as “El Pinos”, named after the pine trees that surround the area. This area enjoys breathtaking panoramic views of rolling mountains and open plains.
Pinoso is serviced by the two main airports of Alicante and San Javier which are a 45 minute and 70 minute drive respectively, with routes to all the major UK airports serviced by most of the budget airlines. There is a new airport under construction 45 minutes away near Murcia.

Golf is becoming more popular inland, with several courses planned over the next few years. For Golfers there are a number of established and famous courses.
Pinoso Places of interest & Monuments:

This area enjoys breathtaking panoramic views with rolling mountains and open plains. In Pinoso itself one of the most original buildings is the town clock and it is possible to take a guided tour up the tower.  The Church contains an unusual image of the Virgen del Remedio (Virgin Healer).

Pinoso Festivities:
From the 1-10 of August the Pinoso fiesta is held in honour of Our Lady the Healer with floral offerings and “vaquillas” (bullfights with young bulls)

Pinoso Excursions:
There are several excellent, entertaining excursions in and around Pinoso like the Cabezo de la Sal mine with its famous red and white walls, the Sierra del Coto marble quarries and the convent in the district of Encebras.

Sporting Diary:
A section of the “Tour of Spain” cycling passes through and around the surrounding areas of Pinoso. The area also has excellent facilities for horse riding and potholing.

Pinoso’s Clock Tower

Pinoso’s clock tower is the most emblematic monument of the town and its origins date back to 1887.

Mayor D. Francisco Rico commissioned the project to build the clock tower as the highest point in the town to house the clock, so all the neighbouring villages could behold it.

The clock its self came for Madrid in 1889 and still to this day it still need to be wound every 24 hours to keep it ticking. The chime and it’s bells are unique for their high quality and to this day there operation (they don’t make them like they use to) The clock tower has two bells, one for the quarter hour and one for the hour  At present a person, family tradition, is responsible for maintaining the clock to perfection.

To visit this monument you will need to make an appointment at the Pinoso Town Hall.

Among many other qualities, the town of Pinoso notable for its excellent cuisine, with dishes like rice with rabbit and snails, gazpacho and garlic, all washed down with excellent wines produced in local Pinoso wineries.

The Pinoso Department of Tourism and Local Development and the Pinoso City Council are collaborating with six local restaurants again this year to promote throughout February the "Display of Pinosan cuisine”.

The secret of success of this display is undoubtedly the quality of its ingredients, which bear the Valencian Mark of Quality, and the traditional production of all the dishes.

This initiative aims not only to explore the culinary possibilities of the municipality, but also to project the best values of the locality in an attempt to diversify its economy and prevent the stagnation of tourism.
